Swaziland Preparations 2012

In the post below, Lorena Hungerford, who volunteers in many capacities at Salem Chapel and has specifically invested in the Swaziland Ministry, updates us on the preparations for the mission team’s visit to the Mpholi CarePoint in March of this year.

Team meetings have begun. Plans are being made. Tickets have been purchased. We are 45 days out from boarding an airplane in Greensboro that begins our journey with a final destination of Manzini, Swaziland. As we make preparations to visit the children at the Mpholi CarePoint, there is still much to be accomplished. I wanted to take this opportunity to update you on everything that is happening.

First of all, every time I walk into my guest bedroom and am met with the overwhelming smell of the soap from the multitude of Ziploc bags filled by so many of you for the children at our CarePoint, I am so very thankful. Your generosity will mean so much to these little ones and they will feel special knowing that their bag was individually filled by someone at Salem Chapel. As preparations continue, there are still ways you can participate.

Through the generosity of one individual, each girl at our CarePoint will receive a hand-made dress and therefore, we would love to provide each of the 110 boys with a pair of shorts as well. We are collecting gently used shorts (preferably drawstring) that will fit boys ages 2 – 16 years old. If you are able to donate shorts, that would be greatly appreciated.

In addition to caring for the children at our CarePoint, we also go to be an encouragement to those who labor there faithfully. There are many  who love and minister to these children on a frequent basis. There are Gogos (grandmothers) who day after day give of their time to prepare meals and serve food to the children. The D-team disciples the children. They share the love of Christ with the children that they might know that it is in God that they will find hope. There are missionaries that keep everything on the ground running smoothly including assisting with teams like ours. We want to love and support them by giving them gifts as well. This year we have opened up to you the opportunity to assist us in gathering these items. We are so encouraged and blessed by the fact that many of you have already chosen to love these servants in this way.

If you would like to take part in giving gifts to the Gogos, D-Team, or missionaries, you can find the details in the Swaziland – Mpholi CarePoint page on The City. If you are interested in donating shorts to the boys at our CarePoint or have any questions, please contact Lorena Hungerford or Jeremy Pattisall via the City.
